Danielle Smathers was elected President of AMVETS Ladies Auxiliary Department of Ohio in June 2022. Danielle joined AMVETS Ladies Auxiliary, Thornville Ohio #51 in 2009, where she is now a life member. Danielle has held several positions on the Local and Department levels. For the Department of Ohio, she has held the positions of Honors and Awards Chairman, Pro Historian, Americanism, Third Vice President, Second Vice President, and First Vice President.
Danielle is inspired daily by her husband, Jim of 22 years and daughter Sarah, who is currently attending Ohio University. For over 21 years, Danielle has worked for TransWorld Systems Inc and is currently a manager in their Client Audit division. Her evenings are kept busy entertaining her 3-year German Shepherd, Thor, and her 11-year-old Yorkshire Terrier, Brutus. In her free time, she likes to read, attend Columbus Blue Jackets games, and drink wine.
Danielle has chosen 1 is Too Many as her President’s project and theme. She was impressed with AMVETS Department of Ohio’s commitment of bringing the number of veteran suicides down to zero. 1 Is Too Many works with at risk veterans who are dealing with issues like opioid/drug abuse, PTSD and other mental health conditions by offering companionship, camaraderie and compassion.
